Federal heat pump rebate 2027: what we know (and what we don’t)
Step 1: quick calculation in 4 answers →Estimate only: floor area, region, insulation and current heating. Final validation afterwards with the full calculator.
How much is the federal rebate?
$2,000 for most eligible households, and up to $10,000 for lower-income households. Canada.ca writes that “households can be eligible for a grant of either $2,000 or up to $10,000 (for low- to median-income households)” (Canada.ca). The government’s backgrounder says: “Households below the median income can receive up to $10,000; other eligible homeowners can receive $2,000” (October 8, 2026 backgrounder).
“Up to” $10,000 means the exact amount can be lower: how it is calculated and which median income is used have not been published. Do not count on $10,000 before you have seen the rules.
When can you apply?
In early 2027, with no exact date. Canada.ca says the rebate “will be available through a streamlined online portal in early 2027” and that more details “will be available as of November 1, 2026” (Canada.ca, page modified October 23, 2026). On October 30, 2026, the only sign-up offered on that page is a form to receive updates: the application portal is not open.
If I install a heat pump now, will I be covered?
Only from November 1, 2026, and only if your household and your heat pump meet criteria that have not been published yet. Canada.ca writes: “households that meet the program’s eligibility criteria and install eligible heat pumps starting on November 1, 2026, will be able to apply for the Rebate once the program launches early in 2027” (Canada.ca).
- Installed before November 1, 2026: Canada.ca only mentions installations made from that date.
- Installed from November 1, 2026: it is a gamble until the eligible products list and the criteria are published. The backgrounder describes approval before purchase (a “pre-approved heat pump”); it is not yet known how that will apply to retroactive installations.
- In every case, keep the itemized invoice (model, capacity, installation date, RBQ licence number, cost): LogisVert already requires it (LogisVert documents).
Which heat pumps will qualify?
Those that will appear on an “Eligible Products List” that has not been published yet. According to the backgrounder, the list is “an extensive selection of over 100,000 options at various price points and configurations, all suited for the Canadian climate”, and the program targets “eligible electric cold climate air source heat pumps” (October 8, 2026 backgrounder).
Not yet known: whether wall-mounted, multi-zone and central models are all accepted, which certification will be required and what minimum capacity. Meanwhile, you can already learn to read a spec sheet’s cold-weather capacity (evaluate a heat pump) and choose the type that suits your home (wall-mounted, multi-zone or central).
How will applying work?
According to the announcement, entirely online and with no energy audit. The backgrounder describes these steps (October 8, 2026 backgrounder):
- The homeowner fills in a simplified form that “requires only basic personal information from the homeowner and details of the eligible heat pump they wish to purchase”.
- The program “will confirm approval within 24 hours”.
- After purchase and installation, the homeowner submits receipts through the portal; according to the backgrounder, “payment will be approved within five days” (direct deposit).
Other announced points: “No pre- or post-energy audits are required”, and “Only one Rebate per person will be issued” (the example given: a landlord who installs a heat pump in a property they own cannot also receive the Rebate for their own residence) (October 8, 2026 backgrounder).
Can you combine the federal rebate and LogisVert?
It is not confirmed, because the two official sources do not say the same thing for now.
- Ottawa: “Both rebates can be combined with existing provincial programs to bring the cost down even further” (October 8, 2026 news release).
- LogisVert: “If your grant application is approved, you agree not to file any other grant application with Hydro-Québec or with any other government agency for the equipment or work listed in your application to the LogisVert Efficient Homes Program” (LogisVert participant’s guide, section 4.1, version 1.10, September 15, 2026).
- Hydro-Québec, on October 30, 2026: the details of the federal offer “are not yet known”, and “the LogisVert program is still available and requests are still being processed normally” (Hydro-Québec).
Until Hydro-Québec publishes how its clause will apply to the federal rebate, do not count on both amounts for the same heat pump. Before applying, ask LogisVert support (1-833-396-1888 or info@logisvert.ca). This summary of official documents is not legal advice.
| LogisVert (Hydro-Québec) | Federal rebate (Government of Canada) | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | In effect | Announced; launch in early 2027 |
| Amount | $50 or $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of capacity at −8 °C, up to $6,700 | $2,000, or up to $10,000 depending on income |
| What sets the amount | The heat pump’s capacity at −8 °C and its certification (ENERGY STAR or ENERGY STAR cold climate) | Household income (threshold not published) |
| Heat pumps | Hydro-Québec’s list (ENERGY STAR) | “Eligible Products List”, not yet published |
| Deadline | Apply within nine months of installation | Installations from November 1, 2026; application deadline not published |

What is still unknown?
As of October 30, 2026, no official source specifies:
- the income threshold (median income for which region and which year) and how it will be verified;
- how the amount is set between $2,000 and $10,000;
- the Eligible Products List and which types of heat pumps are accepted;
- the rules for tenants, condos and apartment buildings;
- the exact launch date, the deadline to apply and the documents required;
- whether a specific type of installer will be required (Ottawa announced consultations with industry and installers);
- how the rebate will work with LogisVert for the same heat pump.
Canada.ca says this information will be available “as of November 1, 2026”. We will update this page from official sources only, with the date checked.
What can you do in the meantime?
- Sign up for official updates on Canada.ca (the sign-up button at the top of the page). It is a Government of Canada form, not a rebate application.
- Estimate the capacity your home needs: quick calculation and how many BTU.
- Work out what LogisVert would already pay, without counting on the federal rebate: LogisVert rebate at −8 °C.
- Compare written quotes (2026 prices) and check the company’s RBQ licence (RBQ licence).
- If your heating system has broken down, do not delay a needed repair while waiting for a rebate whose rules are not known. Oil heating: replacing an oil furnace.
